The Highlights of Zagorje – a day trip from Zagreb through scenic roads

Discover the Zagorje region and its most charming sites: a mystical fairy tale 13th-century castle of Trakošćan and Kumrovec – 19th-century ethno village. The castle’s location crowns the hill surrounded by a pristine beauty of a lake that will dazzle you, as much as the opulent architecture and lavishly decorated interior hosting a valuable collection of paintings, furniture, and weapons.

Kumrovec village museum features 40 restored houses and barns made of pressed earth and wood. The village was the birthplace of Josip Broz Tito, the former president of Yugoslavia. His house is converted into a museum containing original furniture, letters from foreign leaders, and memorabilia.

Since we are passionate about the history of Croatia and the former Yugoslavia (and also great foodies!) this tour is going to be full of stories, fun, and local experience not to be missed – a traditional lunch prepared from organic ingredients, accompanied by delicious wine. Enjoy a day away from the hustle and bustle of the city!

ITINERARY

We can customize this tour to fit your preferences.

  • After the hotel pick up (9. 00 am), we shall set for the comfortable 1-hour drive (82km) to Trakošćan castle.
    The duration of the visit is approximately 1 hour with the possibility to have a little free time to stroll around the park and the lake (according to your wishes).
  • We shall further on gently drive for 45 minutes through the hills and valleys of Zagorje while enjoying the legends and myths of the area.
  • Our next stop is the restaurant where you will enjoy local traditional food, in a very unique setting
  • After lunch, we’ll surprise you with a short stop at yet another castle – Veliki Tabor 
  • After that, we will set off for Kumrovec Old Village Museum for an easy stroll through the houses
